Motorists advised to 'plan ahead' as overnight resurfacing work on A9 in the north set to start this weekend

RESURFACING of two sections of the A9 in Easter Ross – starting this weekend – "will greatly improve the surface for road users" but inevitably cause some inconvenience.
BEAR Scotland is carrying out the work for Transport Scotland, the country's national transport agency.
BEAR will be resurfacing sections of the A9 near Evanton at Deephaven from Sunday, June 11 and then at Skiach Services from Monday, June 26.
Here's the plan of action
Phase 1: Works at the A9 Deephaven are scheduled to take place over 11 nights between June 11 and June 25 from 7pm to 6am. They will be complete by 6am on Monday, June 26, weather permitting. There will be no works on Friday and Saturday nights.
Phase 2: The works will move to the A9 at Skiach Services on Monday, June 26. They are scheduled to take place over 19 nights, from 7pm and 6am, and are due to be complete by 6am on Friday, July 21. Again, there will be no works on Friday and Saturday nights.
For the first eight nights of phase 2 of the scheme (Monday, June 26 to Wednesday, July 5) the Skiach Services (B9176) junction will be closed with an alternative route in place.
Traffic intending to access the A9 from Skiach Services will be diverted on to the B9176, then on to the B817 to Westford roundabout, and then down Teaninich Avenue where traffic will join the A9.
Traffic travelling on the A9 and intending to access Skiach Services will be diverted from the A9 on to Teaninich Avenue to Westford roundabout, on to the B817 and then on to the B9176 to Skiach Services.
From Thursday, July 6 the A9 itself will be closed at Skiach Services.
Traffic travelling northbound will be diverted from the A9 at Skiach Services on to the B9176, then on to the B817 to Westford roundabout, on to Teaninich Avenue, then back on to the A9.
Traffic travelling southbound will be diverted from the A9 on to Teaninich Avenue to Westford roundabout, then on to the B817 followed by the B9176 at Skiach Services, then back to the A9.
To ensure the safety of road workers and motorists, during working hours for both phases of the project traffic will be escorted through the site by a convoy vehicle at 10mph.
Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

“The use of convoy traffic management and a side road closure for the second part of the scheme during working hours is essential to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists.
