Hundreds of Highland residents were without electricity on Friday morning after further power outages caused by Storm Babet.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks' (SSEN's) Powertrack online map was showing numerous communities without power at 7am on Friday morning.

These include properties in the Helmsdale and Ousdale area, Golspie, Rossal, Lairg and a large swathe of land in the Coigach and Assynt area.

Further south, the map was also showing outages centred around Loch Ruthven to the south of Inverness, and in the Kincraig area south of Aviemore.

None of these outages had engineers on site at the time of writing.

However, the worst affected parts of Scotland on Friday appeared to be centred on the east coast from Aberdeenshire south into Perth & Kinross, where the map was highlighting more than 100 separate power outages at the time of writing.

These areas included those subject to a red 'danger to life' weather warning from the Met Office.

The latest power outages in the far north and eastern Scotland come after a wide number of similar incidents were reported on Thursday, as strong gales wrought havoc.

Some of the Highland communities hit by power cuts on Thursday included Durness, Kinlochbervie, Lochinver, Bonar Bridge, Dornie, Achiltibuie, Ullapool, Gairloch, Glenelg, Invergarry, Mallaig, Roy Bridge, and Kilchoan among others.
