DINGWALL and Highland Marts Ltd yesterday sold 874 store cattle and 73 OTM (over thirty month) cattle.

Bullocks (480) averaged 288.8p per kg and sold to 340.2p per kg for a 485kg Limousin cross from Invercharron Mains, Ardgay and £1900 gross for a 330kg Limousin cross from Teandalloch, Beauly.

Heifers (391) averaged 269.2p per kg and sold to 342.9p per kg for a 420kg Limousin cross from Lyne of Urchany Farm, Geddes and £1580 gross for a 540kg Limousin cross from Dell of Killiehuntly, Kingussie.

Young Bulls (3) averaged 216.1p per kg and sold to 236.6p per kg for a 262kg Limousin cross from Creagard, Struan and £1,070 gross for a 490kg Beef Shorthorn from Upperton, Glenurquhart.

The annual spring show and sale was sponsored by Highland Rural and judged by Tom Stewart, Gunhill. A fine show of beasts were presented to him with the bullock class being extremely competitive. In fact in this section the champion and reserve were found. An outstanding Limousin Cross bullock by the executors of the late I Logan, Teandalloch which realised £1900. Carrying on his winning streak from the night before was Mr Callum Maciver, Easter Strath, with his reserve champion bullock which realised £1600.

Outwith the shows a solid store cattle trade was had for a very mixed show for quality. The best shapely continental and heavy cattle met a fierce enquiry whilst smaller, plainer sorts would be a touch easier than previous sales this season.
