Missing boy found safe and well in Tongue area

A 13-year-old boy who sparked a major search in Sutherland overnight has been found safe and well.

Four coastguard rescue teams were called to the Tongue area just after midnight on Saturday.

Coastguards from Melness, Melvich, Durness and Scrabster were called out.

A coastguard search and rescue helicopter was also scrambled to assist coastguards from Melness, Melvich, Durness and Scrabster.

Rescuers searched until 3.30am in the hope of finding the youngster, who was reported missing at around 12.20am.

However, following a successful operation, police have confirmed that the boy has been found safe and well.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.20am on Saturday, March 9, we received a report of a 13-year-old boy missing from the Tongue area.

“Enquiries were made and the boy was traced safe and well.”
