Micro film festival to take place at Lairg

A MICRO film festival is being held by Lairg and District Learning Centre as part of the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival Highland.

The film festival, which will celibrate “localism, creativity and climate action in the Highland and Islands,” is taking place at Lairg Community Centre on Thursday, October 26, from 6.30pm-8pm.

On the programme will be a selection of environmental micro films created by local people during recent ‘Through the Lens’ smartphone film-making workshops taken by Sutherland-born film director Robert Aitken.

Also being shown is Mr Aitken’s own environmental film, The Dreaming Bog, an “ecopoetic” story on climate change told through history and mythology of the peatbogs of northern Scotland and the mires and Finland.

The film is based on the opening acts of a new poem ‘Six Thousand Years of Sunlight’. by Caithness makar, George Gunn.

And a documentary film by Cameron Mackay, commissioned by the Highlands and Islands Climate Hub will also be featured.

‘Climate Action:Highlands and Islands’ features a selection of inspiring climate hub members from across the region telling their stories of community climate action.

The line-up includes groups from Sutherland – Lairg and District Learning Centre, the Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust, Sutherland Girls on Boards, Rogart Primary School and Rogart Mart.

The film festival is a free event but booking in advance is recommended. Book via eventbrite or by calling 01549 402050.
