AN East Sutherland events venue has operated well in its first year of opening, managers have said.

The historic Rogart Mart has been transformed into an events space and was officially opened by King Charles III, then Prince Charles last August.

Rogart community councillors were given an update on the mart by Jonathan Hedges, chairman of Rogart Development Trust at a meeting in Pittentrail Hall on Monday.

Mr Hedges said: “We have had a few good nights at the Mart – two very successful music nights and a comedy night recently.

“We are really pleased with it so far. We have got a ceilidh this Friday night and another clothes swish in September and a community market towards the end of that month.

“It will probably go a bit quieter after that because it is a bit colder over the winter. But there will be a carol service."

Mr Hedges added that further improvements were planned including canopies to provide more shelter. A noticeboard to publicise future events had been installed.

“Touch wood, it is all going well so far,” he said.
