Police received a tip-off that indecent images of children were on devices belonging to a Welshman who was staying with his partner in Brora.

Andrew Beresford's partner was at home in Victoria Street watching Netflix on August 7, 2021. But when she was finished, Inverness Sheriff Court heard that she had a look at Beresford's search history and saw references to indecent images of children.

Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald heard the case at Inverness Sheriff Court.

Fiscal depute Pauline Gair told Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald: "Police received a call later that night and two officers went to the property. They seized a phone and a computer."

She added: "He told police: 'I know there are pictures of kids – the things me and my mates send each other as a laugh. Honestly, everything I downloaded was from Google Images so is legal."

Mrs Gair added that in total there were 80 images, seven of the most extreme kind. The majority were in the lowest category 'C'.

Beresford (30), of Heath Street, Shotton, in North Wales, admitted downloading and possessing indecent images of children between April 1, 2021, and August 7, 2021. He had sentence deferred until July 20 for a background report.
