A man was airlifted to safety after injuring himself on rocks in Sutherland at the weekend.

The alarm was raised around 12.40pm on Sunday after the 35-year-old slipped about 500 yards from the Stoer Lighthouse.

The coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Stornoway and the Achiltibuie, Kinlochbervie and Ullapool coastguard rescue teams were all sent.

The man was airlifted to Lochinver, about 12 miles away, where he was taken by a friend to hospital with an ankle injury. His condition is unknown.
