A climber has been rescued after falling in the Cuillins on Skye.

The 33-year-old man from the central belt was with a companion when he took a tumble.

The alarm was raised at 1pm on Tuesday when Skye Mountain Rescue Team received a report that a climber had fallen a short distance and injured himself while descending the normal route from 3064ft high Am Bhasteir.

The Stornoway coastguard search and rescue Helicopter was only able to uplift the 20 team members to 1476ft up the peak due to the low cloud, but still halving the hard walk with heavy kit.

"The casualty was quickly located, treated and packaged on a stretcher, and lowered four rope lengths back to easier ground," said Neil Urquhart, team leader of Skye MRT.

"He was in a lot of pain.

"An hour later we were at the foot of the scree path, the cloud was breaking up and R948 (the helicopter) was able to come in at 600m (1968ft) to pick up the casualty and transport him to hospital.

"Everyone was off the hill by 9pm to find that the lovely staff at Sligachan Hotel had a very welcome late meal for us. Many thanks too to the three mountain instructors who, having seen their clients to safe ground, either stayed with the casualty or came back up to help. We wish the casualty a speedy recovery."
