Man rescued after collapsing on remote north-west Sutherland beach

A man has been airlifted to hospital from a north-west Sutherland beach.

The man, in his 50s, collapsed yesterday at Sandwood bay.The beach, regularly named among the best in the world, is hard to reach.

The alarm was raised at 2.20pm and coastguard rescue teams from Kinlochbervie, Durness and Melness were all called out.

A helimed took the man to hospital. His condition is unknown.

Situated about 11 miles from Cape Wrath, Sandwood beach is looked after by the John Muir Trust.
