A LEGAL firm serving Sutherland is giving people the chance to put their affairs in order while offering a major boost for local sick kids.

The offer runs until November 27.

Georgesons is backing The Archie Foundation by offering to draw up basic wills free of charge in return for a donation to the charity that makes the difference for sick children when they are in hospital or require long-term medical treatment.

The firm, which has offices in Wick, Thurso and Tain, has a suggested, voluntary donation of £80 for a single will and £100 for a pair of wills. The generous offer runs until November 27.

Bruce de Wert, principal at Georgesons, said: “Making a will is straightforward, simple and an important way of protecting family and loved ones in the future so it is surprising that less than 50 per cent of people have made one. Their money will be distributed accordingly to the laws of intestacy, a detailed set of impersonal rules which dictate where the money goes.”

Declan McGinley, associate solicitor at Georgesons, said: “It can take years to sort out someone’s estate if they die without a will and I have seen a great deal of distress which is needless and can be easily avoided.”

While the NHS provides amazing care, Archie chips in with the extras – advanced training and equipment, specialist staff, child-friendly environments, and family support.
