And substantial work has been undertaken on the loos in Dornoch town square.

A local authority spokesman said cubicles, fixings, flooring, light fittings and extractor fans had all been replaced in the building.

In addition a new janitorial sink had been installed and the entrance doors replaced to open outwards.

The total cost of the Dornoch project amounted to around £44,000.

Community councillors in both Brora and Dornoch have expressed their delight at the completion of the long-awaited upgrade projects.

Brora community councillor Diana Royce, who has long called for the work to be done, said it was a “major if small milestone”.
