Emergency services were last night called out to a lorry fire in a layby on the A9 by Aviemore.

The incident occurred just before 10pm between the Lynwilg and Granish junctions and the flames could be seen from neighbouring properties at High Burnside.

Traffic Scotland reported that the Inverness-Perth road was closed in both directions with traffic being diverted through Aviemore.

Two fire appliances were in attendance at the scene.

One eye witness is said to have reported that the vehicle involved was a whisky tanker.

The route has since reopened.
