Work on a long-awaited disabled ramp access path at a Sutherland church has now been completed.

Worshippers at St Andrew’s Church of Scotland in Golspie have waited for some 12 years to have the £42,000 new access infrastructure put in place.

In the past, the lack of access has caused upset and anger, particularly when wheelchair users were unable to attend funerals.

Parish minster Rev John Sterrett said: “Our new disabled ramp is finally complete and already in use. We prayed for this every week for 12 years and God has blessed our persistence.

“This also fulfils the request of local people, who had petitioned for it for years, to enable those with poor mobility to attend church and funeral services of friends and family.”

Highland Council gave £14,700 to the project in 2015.
