POLICE had to break up an illegal late-night lockdown party in an Inverness graveyard.

Officers attended Tomnahurich Cemetery in Glenurquhart Road in the early hours of Wednesday after receiving complaints from people living nearby.

One witness said it sounded as though a party was going on from about 9pm until police arrived after midnight.

She said: “We couldn’t see anything from where we live, but we could certainly hear a lot of noise for a long time.

“When we phoned the police, they said they would come straight round, and to their credit they did.

“It was all dispersed almost instantly, whether that was people running away or not, I don’t know.”

A police spokesman said: “We were made aware of a disturbance at Tomnahurich Cemetery around 12.20am on Wednesday.

“A 38-year-old woman was issued with a warning in connection with a breach of the peace.”
