The lifeboat found a mast of the yacht above the water - about 25 yards from the shore.

Stornoway Coastguard said that there were no reports of a missing yacht but inquires were continuing.

Police divers may also be sent to the scene to investigate.

Ullapool and Achiltibuie coastguard rescue teams searched the shoreline.

"Inquiries are ongoing. Debris was found and the lifeboat has marked the mast," said a spokesperson for the coastguard.

"There are no reports of any vessel that is missing in the area."

It is understood the yacht may not be local.
