The alarm was raised around 9.45 on Saturday after a yacht with two people on board experienced engine failure and went aground at Loch Laxford.

The lifeboat arrived at the scene at 11pm, but found that the 21-metre yacht was well aground.

The lifeboat crew stated on their social media page : "With the tide falling, the decision was made to take the yacht's crew on board the lifeboat, head to Kinlochbervie and wait for the tide to turn. Both of the yacht's crew were in good health and uninjured."

Rescuers returned to the scene at 3.20am when the yacht's skipper and a lifeboat volunteer went onto the yacht to check for damage and set up a tow line.

The post continued: "At 4.30am the yacht floated free and was towed to the safety of deeper water. Once the skipper was sure there was no water ingress, the lifeboat began the tow back, arriving at Kinlochbervie at 6.15am.

"With the yacht and crew now safely alongside the harbour wall, the lifeboat headed back to the station. It was ready for service again at 8.20am."

Rescuers said the crew of the yacht were well prepared by having a means of contacting the Coastguard for assistance.
