The Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust (KoSDT) has received a number of "expressions of interest" from operators keen to run the café and gift shop at its Falls of Shin visitor centre.

The opening was advertised on the trust’s website with expressions of interest invited by a November 23 deadline.

KoSDT said it was looking for a “long-term, community focused operator".

The previous operator of the Falls of Shin café and gift shop went into liquidation in early 2021 and the café was not open this summer season.

However KoSDT did arrange for a high-quality food van, Crofters Kitchen, to be based at the visitor attraction this year.

Trust manager David Watson told the Northern Times: “Despite the ongoing concerns surrounding Covid restrictions and staffing, the trust has received some really interesting expressions of interest from local businesses for taking on the operation of the café and gift shop.

"These expressions of interest will be discussed at the next KoSDT Board meeting to be held on December 15.

“The site was very busy this summer with overwhelmingly good feedback for the service provided by Crofters Kitchen and the site in general.

“The motorhome facilities (electric hook up points, water, and waste disposal facilities) that were installed last winter have done very well, with the chemical waste facility having particularly high uptake.

“We have also successfully applied for funding to install outdoor ‘green’ gym equipment on the site. We feel this will really help to develop the Falls of Shin as a great space to engage with nature to help with emotional and physical wellbeing."
