Children at Helmsdale primary school and nursery were sent home with an early Christmas gift after a visit to local restaurant, Thyme and Plaice.
A total of 53 pupils, from the nursery through to Primary 7, walked from the school over to the restaurant to collect a ‘DIY pizza kit’ each.
Owner of Thyme and Plaice, Robert Stephenson, said: "Having our wee restaurant in the village along with other sole traders we are often humbled by the support of our locals to see us through the long winter months. The wee helmies are always in our hearts around Christmas time so as a small token of thanks, the last few years we have made them DIY pizza boxes.
"These first appeared during the pandemic which were well received so, for the last three Christmases, we have made a box for each child who goes to the primary school.
"Just now, with rising costs and heating bills going up, if I can supply a child a pizza DIY kit it’s one less thing for a parent to think about. If the child creates their own pizza, there is a good chance they will eat it too!
"I feel now more than ever we all need to look after one another in our communities . If we can help someone through this uncertain times then hopefully we can make it less stressful for others."
To show their appreciation for their new pizza kits, the children sang three Christmas carols outside the restaurant, joined by Robert and his staff, along with teachers from the school.
A spokesperson for the school said: "A massive thank you to Rob and staff at Thyme and Plaice for supplying every single one of our pupils with a pizza making kit.
"These have become a bit of a tradition and are truly appreciated. What a great community we live in.
"We look forward to seeing some festive creations – get stretching and rolling!"
