Leading prices from Dingwall Mart's 'tremendous show of cattle'

Dingwall and Highland Marts Ltd sold 1791 store cattle at their 17th anniversary sale yesterday.

Bullocks (1,007) averaged 240.5p (+29.2p on the year) and sold to 410.3p per kg and £1,600 gross for a of 390kg Limousin cross sold in aid of Cancer Research kindly donated by the estate of the late Mr R. McCrae, Culmill, Kiltarlity purchased by Mr B. Gilvear, Graystale Farm, Stirling.

Heifers (777) averaged 230.0p (+27.3p on the year) and sold to 348.8p per kg and £1,500 gross for a 430kg British Blue cross from Invercharron, Ardgay.

Young bulls (7) averaged 194.5p and sold to 230.1p per kg for a 365kg Limousin cross from Invercharron, and £1,270 gross for a 750kg Charolais from Forsie, Westfield.

A spokesman said: “A tremendous show of cattle met a firm trade from start to finish.”

Heifers up to 250kg – Torvaig, Portree, £640, Achnahinich, Plockton, 274.4p; 251-300kg – Wester Tomloan, Nairn, £970, 334.5p; 301-350kg – Kennachy, Forss, £910, Upper Northfield, Wick, 282.5p; 351-400kg – Wester Tomloan, £1,180, Invercharron, 247.4p; 401-450kg – Rattar Mains, Thurso, £1,150, Bunchrew Farm, Inverness, 266.7p; 451-500kg – Udale, £1,440, 292.7p; 501-550kg – 4 Glaick, Ardross, £1,330, 244.0p.

The mart also sold 75 OTM cattle.

OTM prime & feeding cows (69) averaged 140.8p and sold to 198.4p per kilo for a 630kg Saler cross from Conon Brae Farms, Torgorm, and £1,390 gross twice for a 780kg Charolais from Forsie, Thurso, and a 915kg Simmental from Torran, Delny.

OTM bulls (6) averaged 122.3p and sold to 137.7p per kg for a 690kg Charolais from Forsie, and £1,350 gross for a 1,020kg Limousin from Ord Farm, Sasaig.
