An annual Armed Forces Day ceremony in Sutherland is to be held in Lairg for the first time this year.

Previous ceremonies have been held at Highland Council headquarters in Drummuie, outside Golspie.

The event is being organised by the county's Lord-Lieutenancy team in conjunction with members of local Royal British Legion Scotland branches.

A spokesperson said: "The move to Lairg is designed to help veterans on the west and north coasts who have long distances to travel."

Armed Forces Day 2024 will take place on Saturday, June 29 at the end of Armed Forces Week. It is a chance for people to show their support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community.

Lord-Lieutenant Major General Patrick Marriott and members of his team met with Legion branch representatives on Monday to begin planning the event.

It will include the flag-raising ceremony itself, the presentation of awards to both veterans and others from across Sutherland, and a buffet lunch at the Lairg Community Centre.

Veterans and all members of the public are welcome to attend the ceremony.

A pipe band is expected to play at the event.
