Lochview Rural Training Centre yesterday hosted Lairg primary school to celebrate National Children’s Gardening Week.
This year National Children’s Gardening Week have teamed up with The World of Peter Rabbit to bring joy and mischief and fun into learning.
Lochview Rural Training, a registered charity and social enterprise based in Lairg, recently completed the installation of a polytunnel that was kindly funded by North Highland Initiative and the Rotary Club of East Sutherland.
Centre founder Cara Cameron said: “It felt fitting that to launch the new polytunnel we incorporated an event as part of National Children's Gardening Week.”
The children arrived wearing Peter Rabbit ear headbands and the morning started with the story of Peter Rabbit.
“They were then split into groups and were able to participate in a range of activities including, painting pots, planting seeds and potting up Lucy lettuce, Minty Malcom and spiky vera."
RHET (The Royal Highland Education Trust) Highland also attended the session to speak to the children about the importance of growing cereals and how farmers produce cereals for our everyday food items such a bread and breakfast cereals.
Whilst attending Lochview Rural Training the children also spent time with the friendly animals.
