A Portgower man has given a £2000 cheque to a dog charity in Caithness as a thankyou for all the happy years spent with his rescue collie Daisy.

Jim Henderson adopted collie Daisy in the very early days of KWK9 forming around 13 years ago. She turned up as a stray but was unclaimed after seven days and saved from being put to sleep by the Wick-based dog charity. The dog was put into a foster home until she found her "furever home" with Jim.

Jim already had an older collie named Meg who had started to slow down but when Daisy arrived it gave old Meg a new lease of life and they shared another few happy years together.

KWK9 says it relies on the generosity of people like Jim who has supported it for many years since adopting Daisy. He wanted to show his gratitude by giving the charity a cheque for £2000.

Jim said: "As a keen supporter of KWK9 I had intended to leave a donation of £2000 in my will.

"But I see no reason why KWK9 should have to wait to benefit for this, or why I shouldn't enjoy giving the donation now. In these uncertain times, who knows if the money will still be there."

Though Daisy is now an old lady with diabetes and cataracts in her eyes, Jim says she is still "enjoying life to the full".

A KWK9 spokesperson said: "We would like to thank Mr James Henderson for his generosity in making a donation of £2000 to KWK9 Rescue. We are most grateful. This is a fantastic cheque which will boost our coffers and enable us to help future dogs that come into our care.

"It will help with providing care for the lovely dogs that come to us and to ensure they are microchipped, vaccinated and neutered prior to going to new homes."

KWK9 would love to hear from anyone who would be interested in supporting its work with a small monthly pledge or who would be interested in helping provide short-term foster care prior to adoption.
