Students at Kinlochbervie have 'immersed themselves' in a rural outdoor expedition as part of learning around agriculture and landscape.

Kinlochbervie High School's S3 class have been taking part in an ongoing project with local John Muir Trust Sandwood Estate warden, Lynn Munro, studying the local habitat from river source to the sea, and how we interact with it.

As part of this project, three adventurous pupils from S3 set out last Friday afternoon for the overnight camping trip accompanied by Lynn, and teachers Dan Price-Davies and Rachel Whiteley.

Rona Macleod, Brandon McKenzie and Ashleigh Campbell walked through strong wind and rain, from Oldshorebeg to Strathan, where they set up camp for the night.

As the weather cleared up, the Northern Lights put on a show across the skies, and the clear weather continued into Saturday for their walk into Sandwood, and on to Blairmore.

The three pupils were said to have "totally immersed themselves" in the trip, and despite some terrible weather, they were delighted with their achievements.

The students will also look at crofting and estate management, and how they work in the landscape and environment.

The young group also intend to organise a local beach clean, and create an art piece from what they collect.

The students are passionate about understanding the local environment, how it is used, and how that can be done sustainably.
