Kinlochbervie pupils thrilled to have school's famous sheep banner shown on live TV during Hampden match

Last Sunday the dedicated pupils and staff from Kinlochbervie High School made their final trip down to Hampden for 2023 to support Scotland in their final home qualifier against Norway, writes Heather Paterson, principal teacher of health and wellbeing with North West Sutherland Schools.

Having already secured their place at Euro 2024, everyone was looking forward to a great game of football without the usual stress that comes with a final Scotland qualifying match.

There was none of the usual stress that comes with a final Scotland qualifying game as the team had already secured a spot for Euro 2024.

As it was the final game, a group of supporters had arranged for a giant TIFO to cover more than half of the stadium for the players to see as they came out of the tunnel.

Luckily we were part of it and the pupils were delighted! Our famous sheep banner was shown on TV several times behind the corner flag and lots of parents and friends texted us during the game to let us know they had seen it!

It was a very up and down match with silly goals being lost and some great goals being scored but in the end, the result was fair and we waited until the end for the players to do a well deserved lap of honour under the lights and to the sounds of the Hampden DJ.

The pupils and staff have travelled nearly 2700 miles this year to support Scotland and the pupils are hoping to persuade their headteacher to let us travel to Germany for the finals next June – a persuasive presentation is in the making!
