Kind Sutherland primary school children fill Christmas shoe boxes to help underprivileged families abroad
It’s that time of year again – with just a few weeks remaining until Christmas, local school children are busy packing shoe boxes with all kinds of essential items along with a few treats.
The boxes will be delivered to underprivileged families overseas and will make their festive season that bit brighter.
Brora Primary School has opted this year to support the annual Blythswood Care Shoe Box Appeal and so far pupils have filled around 25 boxes.
Head teacher Mairi Scott said: “The pupil council decided it was a cause they wanted to support so invited a representative to come to the school and explain more about the initiative. A huge thank-you goes to parents for all their support.”

Other East coast schools are working through the Rotary Club of East Sutherland which also runs an annual shoe box scheme with boxes distributed across Eastern Europe. This year families in war-torn Ukraine will also benefit from the scheme.
Rotarian Alistair Risk said: "RotaKids at Dornoch Primary School have so far filled some 60 boxes and the RotaKids of Helmsdale are also again busy filling shoe boxes. We are delighted with their support for the project."
