Assynt Mountain Rescue Team were called out at the weekend after a walker was reported missing on the John O’Groats to Lands End route.
A spokesperson for the team said: “At the time a number of the team’s incident managers were together on a Scottish Mountain Rescue Incident Management course.
“They quickly initiated procedures to try and locate the missing person. The team used specialist search and rescue software to help locate the person and then track them safely to the end of this leg of their journey.”
All members of Assynt Mountain Rescue Team volunteer their time and the service relies on public support. It costs an average of £2500 to run a mountain rescue operation.
The team works out of two bases - their main rescue post is at Inchnadamph and they also have a mobile unit at Thurso.
