A PLANNED redevelopment of the Royal Golf Hotel in Dornoch would create up to 10 new jobs, operators have said.

Highland Coast Hotels, which took over the business last year, are seeking planning consent to take down outbuildings to the side and rear of the hotel.

It is then hoped to build a new, single-storey accommodation block, providing six additional guest rooms along with a staff welfare area. The hotel currently has 22 en-suite bedrooms.

A design statement submitted to planners says the new accommodation will provide a "broader range of room types including accessible accommodation".

Highland Coast Hotels is also seeking planning consent to replace the existing restaurant and events space, which enjoys a panoramic view over Royal Dornoch Golf Club but is in a poor condition.

The statement reads: "The new restaurant is largely seen as a replacement for the existing extension and will be a predominantly glazed single storey structure with terrace access."

It adds: "Highland Coast Hotels believe there is an opportunity to create a unique venue which takes full advantage of the spectacular location and views."

Minor "informal alterations" to the Royal Golf are also planned as well as a reconfiguration of the car park.

The hotel company expects to employ around 93 people across its six hotels by next spring. It says: "The development at the Royal Golf will create a further eight to 10 new roles."
