Durness is continuing its tradition of spreading spooky fun in the Highlands for Halloween.

In the past, it was Philipp Tanzer, Mr Halloween himself, who organised the frightfest, but he is now taking a little step back, thanks to many people in the community supporting the event.

While most of the fun, such as the family party, spooky pottery and the big costume dance take place next Saturday, October 28, one of the most popular events is on for a whole week – the infamous haunted house.

Over the years, there have been many Halloween haunted houses in Durness with different themes and always in a child-friendly version and a scary one for brave adults.

Vampires, cannibals, zombies, killer clowns, Celtic mythical creatures and chainsaw wielding maniacs have all visited the otherwise peaceful village.

This year’s special monster is Freddy Krueger from the horror movie A Nightmare on Elm Street. He haunts people in their dreams, chases them and tries to scare them to death.

Philipp has turned an abandoned, empty shell of a building at Balnakeil Craft Village into a spooky house over two storeys with many rooms, hallways, tunnels, secret doors and shocking surprises.

Fog, changing light and eerie music make the nightmare perfect.

The kids’ version is more fun and far less scary. Children can explore the house and pull on strings to make skulls, pumpkins and other surprises pop up.

It’s a great experience for parents and their kids, for school classes or birthday parties.

If children are a bit afraid to go on the tour, they are usually given a little sneak peak with the lights on. They are shown how the special effects work and that is all just fake and fun. After all, it is important that all children have a great experience.

The haunted house for kids and adults can be booked between October 244-31 at your convenience. You can book your slot now on 01971 511288.
