Inverness residents smell smoke as Daviot wildfire 'stretches over a mile long'





Overnight people in Inverness have reported on social media that they could smell smoke thought to be coming from a wildfire near Daviot.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service stated yesterday: "Crews are currently in attendance at a wildfire in Daviot near Inverness.

"Residents are asked to stay indoors and close all windows and doors to prevent inhaling smoke."

Fire crews have been sent to the scene from Inverness, Nairn, Forres, Beauly, Invergordon and Dornoch.

Efforts have also been aided by helicopter crews.

The fire, which is believed to be in among woods and moorland not far from the A9, was reported at around 2.45pm yesterday.

Highland councillor Duncan Macpherson said: "The wildfire at Daviot, south of Inverness, stretches over a mile long between Craggie and Moy and presents an almighty challenge for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to try and contain as the wind blows the flames further across the landscape!"

Several people have posted images and footage on social media to help spread awareness of the blaze.
