A new study has revealed that Inverness is the UK’s second most relaxing city with its numerous walking trails and quality of green space.

New research conducted by the travel insurance experts at PayingTooMuch has analysed 40 of the most in-demand UK travel destinations to determine which are the most relaxing destinations to visit for 2024.

The study has ranked the locations based on a range of metrics, including: the number of parks and walking trails, noise and light pollution, traffic levels, population density, and the life satisfaction scores of residents in each city.

Inverness ranks as the second most chilled-out city in the UK, with a low population density (3,200 per sq mile) and low traffic scores (100/200).

The city also ranks eighth for having the lowest light and pollution score of all UK cities.

It was also found that Inverness has the most walking trails in relation to its population of all UK cities, with 134 walks available per 100,000 people.

However, Durham was crowned the most chilled-out city to visit in the UK, with residents giving a life satisfaction score of 7.6 out of 10 and quality of green space and parks scoring a huge 96/100.

On the other end of the spectrum is Plymouth as it was voted the least relaxing city in the UK.
