Hundreds of residents in the far north were without power electricity on Friday morning after a power cut.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) said a large part of Sutherland and western parts of Caithness are affected by the outage, which occurred at around 11.40am.

SSEN's Powertrack website revealed that the area affected extends along the far north coast from the western shores of Loch Eriboll in the west to around Reay in Caithness in the east.

It extends south through Altnaharra and Kinbrace to an area close to Kildonan.

Separate patches of power outages are also being reported by SSEN at Lairg and between Rosehall and Invershin.

Dozens of postcodes and more than 900 customers are reportedly affected.

SSEN said engineers were on site at the time of writing, and hoped to restore power by around 12.30pm/1pm.
