ENTRIES are open for a 51-mile walking challenge.

The Laich O’Moray 50 takes place over Saturday-Sunday October 1-2 and is organised annually by North of Scotland group of the Long Distance Walkers Association (LDWA).

Entrants have 24 hours to complete the walk, which starts from the cricket pavilion in Grant Park, Forres.

The route heads along the Moray Coast Trail to Lossiemouth, then goes inland to historic Elgin on a disused railway line before returning via forestry, country lanes and Heldon Hill, just outside Forres.

Heldon Hill is spectacular, even at night, when most walkers are likely to be seeing it!

Entry costs £35 for LDWA members and £50 for non-LDWA members. For their entry fee, walkers get fed and watered at several checkpoints en route, they get a hot meal and drinks at the finish, and they will be transported back to the start should they have to retire. Also, entrants get a certificate and a goody bag.

The LDWA is a national association for people who enjoy long distance walking which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. It has 42 groups spread throughout the country (including three in Scotland), with membership costing £18 for individuals and £25.50 for families.

Walkers wishing to enter the Laich O’Moray 50, or are interested in joining the LDWA, should to go the North of Scotland group’s website https://ldwa.org.uk/NorthWestGrampian
