There are hopes that the early arrival of snow could lead to some snowsports being available at Cairngorm Mountain in the run-up to Christmas.

New resort boss Susan Smith said: "I’m keen that if the snow continues and we have sufficient cover that we open before our scheduled date of December 17.

"However, timings will have to remain fluid until we see what the snow cover is like well into next week."

Last winter the resort only managed one weekend of snowsports before having to close because of the Covid lockdown which came into force on Boxing Day.

The snow conditions in 2020/21 at Cairngorm Mountain went on to be the best for a decade and fingers will be crossed for a repeat as occurred at the start of the 2010s.

Cairngorm Mountain (Scotland) Ltd announced earlier this week that Ms Smith had been appointed to the permanent role of chief executive.

She had held the role of interim chief executive at CMSL since 2019, on secondment from Highlands and Islands Enterprise where she was head of business development.
