The signs are “positive” that Scottish Land Fund money will be forthcoming for a community purchase of the town’s Fountain Road Hall, Golspie Community Council has been told.

The issue was discussed at the group’s Zoom meeting on Monday when chairman Ian Sutherland said: “It is a wait and see for Fountain Road Hall but it is looking fairly positive.”

Ward councillor Richard Gale, said the outcome of the Scottish Land Fund application was expected early next week and the closing date for offers on the building was November 25.

Meanwhile matters are also progressing regarding the transfer to community ownership of another public building – the YMCA – on the town’s Main Street.

“This is moving forward quite quickly and the lease is just about in our grasp,” said Mr Sutherland. He said complaints had been received from the local Co-op and individuals about 'kids ‘hanging about the street' and it would be good to offer young people a place to go.
