Dornoch museum Historylinks has announced the appointment of a new outreach worker.

Laura Kasim has taken up the post which has been made possible by grant funding from Museums Galleries Scotland.

Laura has returned from London to Dornoch, where she has a long family history, and will be taking forward a programme of museum outreach work in Dornoch and district.

She said: “I am really excited to be taking up this new role and working with a wide range of community groups back in the town where I spent much of my childhood.”

One of the groups Laura will be working with is the museum’s Young Curators Club which is for eight-12 year olds and meets weekly. For information about the club, email: ycc@historylinks.org.uk

Historylinks curator Lynne Mahoney said: “We think that museums can have a positive impact on the wellbeing of communities by reaching out to include a wide range of people in heritage themed activities.”

The museum is continuing to fundraise for its £509,000 planned new Heritage Hub extension, and it is expected that the project will go out to tender by the end of October. The new hub will have a dedicated space out of which to run the programme of outreach work.
