A woman hiker spent an uncomfortable night in the north's hills after becoming disorientated in poor weather.

The 22-year-old raised the alarm by mobile phone on Monday, which resulted in a full team callout for Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team.

The hiker had become lost while walking the four Munros in the Beinn Dearg group.

"She managed to raise the alarm early on Monday morning after spending the night out on the hill in very poor weather conditions," said a team spokesman.

"In total 19 team members along with a SARDA dog and coastguard helicopter from Inverness joined in the search for the walker. A couple of hours into the search the missing person was located by the helicopter and taken back to where she was given a hot coffee to warm her up before being driven back to Inverness to recover."
