Rhoda Grant MSP has hit out at the bleak state of food need in Scotland during the rising cost of living crisis.

"It is an absolute disgrace that so many people and families are being forced to turn to food banks, many for the first time ever.

"Years of Tory austerity and economic mismanagement have not lead to the prosperity we were promised so long ago. Instead, more Scots than ever are struggling to put food on the table.

"The Scottish Government must commit to further helping those suffering most from the cost of living crisis and take the opportunity they rejected before to enshrine the UN right to food in Scots law."

Her outburst comes 14 months after she launched her proposal for a Member’s Bill aimed at incorporating the human right to food into Scots Law.

The Equalities, Human Rights and Civil Justice Committee considered the statement of reasons at its meeting in October last year but was "not satisfied with the reasons given by the member for not consulting on the draft proposal".
