Volunteers provide invaluable support to their communities in so many different ways.

Some help out their neighbours by clearing their path of ice and snow every winter to ensure they can safely get in and out of their homes, or collect their groceries if they are too poorly to get to the shops.

Others organise initiatives to improve their community, such as establishing new amenities in their town or village for everyone to enjoy or volunteer to support the most vulnerable in society ‒ whether at home or abroad.

Highland Heroes recognises the efforts of these people in our communities who give up much of their own time to support others with the volunteer of the year award.

The award will be presented to an individual who has been beyond generous in volunteering their time and talents to help others as an unpaid activity.

NOMINATE at https://www.hnmedia.co.uk/highlandheroes/ by December 17 in any of the categories.

Cairngorm Group joint managing director, Chris Dowling, said: “Volunteers play a hugely important role in our communities, often providing vital support and services that truly make the lives of others better. So many people would really struggle without the support of volunteers.

“They make a huge difference to communities but are often unsung heroes who generously give up their time for others without looking for thanks or recognition.

“We want to show our support for the many volunteers in our community and we’re delighted to sponsor the volunteer of the year award. We encourage everyone to get behind Highland Heroes and nominate the incredible volunteers that so generously donate their time and energy.”
