Around 200 soldiers from 19th Regiment Royal Artillery (The Highland Gunners) will take part in a Homecoming Parade in Inverness on Thursday to mark their recent return from operations in Afghanistan.

The Regiment, which is based at Bhurtpore Barracks in Tidworth Camp in Wiltshire, returned to the UK in October following its deployment as part of 12th Mechanized Brigade.

It took on a variety of roles and was deployed across Helmand Province, supporting five Battlegroups, in its Joint Fire roles, operating both on foot and from Protected Mobility vehicles e.g Jackals.

During the tour the Regiment also played a significant role in the Mentoring and Monitoring of the Afghanistan National Police (ANP) and the Afghan National Army (ANA). Its efforts have assisted the country to make significant progress in achieving security for its people.

The Regiment was granted ‘Freedom of the City’ of Inverness in 1999.
