The two standing councillors in each of the two Sutherland wards have been returned in the Highland Council elections.

Deirdre Mackay (Scottish Labour) and Jim McGillivray (Independent) have held their seats in the East Sutherland and Edderton ward, while George Farlow (SNP) and Linda Munro (Lib-Dem) have been returned for the North West and Central Sutherland ward.

The two new members are Graham Phillips (SNP) in the east and Hugh Morrison (Independent) in the north west.

Robbie Rowantree, who was councillor for the north west ward in the previous administration, and stood for the east constituency this time round, failed to be re-elected.

Turn out has been relatively high - 49.1 per cent in the east and 48.9 in the west.
