The Met Office issued a bulletin this morning warning that thunderstorms may affect parts of Sutherland.

The forecast issued at 9.42am states that while many places will stay dry, a few showers or thunderstorms will develop from around late morning until early evening.

"Some of these will be heavy, perhaps giving 20-30mm of rain in around one hour and up to 40 mm in 2-3 hours. Hail and lightning are also expected," it adds.

The areas affected appear to show that the inclement weather may affect the north and north-west of the county.
