AN on-line Golspie community group is attempting to lighten its followers’ mood during the coronavirus pandemic by staging a virtual exhibition of one of the area’s best known artists.

This stunning portrait of Steve MacGruer was taken by Brora photographer Craig Mackay many years ago. Mr Mackay says he has at least one of Steve MacGruer's paintings and many more pictures of him.

Golspie Village is keen to post as many paintings by the late Steve MacGruer on its Facebook page as possible.

It states: “We have been requested to create a virtual exhibition of Steve MacGruer paintings. Post your painting here and lets see how many are in the village.”

The request has already had a huge response with people posting from as far afield as Australia, many including pictures of Mr MacGruer’s work.

Mr MacGruer’s widow Lesley posted: “This has brought a lot of memories back.” And his daughter Kirsten Macneil wrote: “It will be amazing to see my Dad’s paintings and where they ended up.”

East Sutherland Art Society awards a trophy annually in Mr MacGruer’s memory.
