Progress is being made towards a community buy-out of Pittentrail Inn at Rogart, the area’s community council has been told.

A steering group has been formed to look into the possibility of the community takeover.

And members are awaiting the outcome of an application to the Scottish Land Fund for Stage I funding.

Jonathan Hedges of Rogart Development Trust – the group behind the initiative – gave an update to Rogart Community Council at its Zoom meeting last night.

He said funding was needed to undertake a community consultation along with a feasibility study and a development plan.

Mr Hedges, who is also a member of the community council, added that a decision from the Scottish Land Fund was expected shortly.

Located in the centre of the community, the Pittentrail Inn has been on the market for some time and is currently closed.

It was previously operated by popular publican Hector Miller who took over the business in 1997 and ran it until his death in December 2019.

The inn has a public bar and restaurant and in its hey-day served as a social hub for the community.
