The coronavirus pandemic and successive lockdowns have been particularly hard for carers, with traditional respite and support services having to close down.

However, a stream of funding has opened up in a bid to bring some “respite and enjoyment” to the lives of unpaid carers.

The grants are intended to bring enjoyment to carers and those they care for.

Awards of up to £300 are available from Funding for Carers, which is being administered by Connecting Carers. The fund opened on February 1 and is set to close on Sunday, February 28.

A spokesman said: “The money can be used to support carer wellbeing, giving you respite in a creative way while traditional respite and support is closed.”

Connecting carers is a charity which aims to support unpaid carers throughout Highland to access the help, information and support they need to enable them and the people they care for to have a better everyday life.
