The Rotary Club of East Sutherland has disbursed £11,400 to 13 good causes throughout the county and beyond.

Grants of £1000 each have gone to the Scottish Air Ambulance Service and the Pakistan Flood Disaster.

Dunrobin Castle Falconry is set to receive £900, while Lochview Rural Training Centre, near Lairg, has been awarded £500 as has the Sutherland Forum towards its food bank and support services.

Armed forces charity SSAFA is in line for £200 as is Brora Gala Week and Brora Scout Group.

And Golspie Caledonian Pipe Band and Jan Trumble Dance will each receive £100.

The financial aid was made possible by various fundraising events held by the club throughout the year such as its Coast to Coast car tour and summer jubilee party.

Club spokesman Alistair Risk said: “These are just a few of the donations the club has made this year.”

The founder of Lochview Rural Training Centre, Cara Cameron, was the guest speaker at the club’s recent meeting.

She told Rotarians that the centre’s first full year of operation had been “challenging but rewarding” with an increasing number of students of all ages attending courses to learn about crofting and agricultural skills.”
