Golspie volunteer Rosa Cawthorne has been presented with her 100-hour Saltire Award.
Saltire Awards are the Scottish Government’s way of celebrating, recognising and rewarding the commitment, contribution and achievements of young volunteers in Scotland.
Twenty-one-year-old Rosa began volunteering at East and Central Sutherland Citizens Advice Bureau (ECSCAB) in Golspie last year after losing her job in the hospitality industry due to the coronavirus pandemic.
She said: “I wanted something productive to do with my time while I searched for work so I contacted the advice bureau to ask about volunteering.
“We discussed the roles available and found one to match what I wanted to achieve. The training offered was flexible and I was able to complete it as and when it suited me.”
The skills and knowledge Rosa gained through volunteering gave her the confidence to apply for a paid role within the bureau.
“I now work as a management administrator supporting the advice team and bureau manager in delivering the service,” she said.
“I am proud to have recently received my Saltire Award certificate and I continue to volunteer when I can.
“I would whoeheartedly recommend volunteering to anyone.”
Bureau manager Rachel MacDonell said: “Rosa is an asset to the service which relies on the help and support of volunteers.
“Volunteering offers so much in return too. It’s social and a great way to build your skills, knowledge and experience.
“It is also something employers are keen to see on the CVs of job candidates.
“I would encourage anyone with an interest in volunteering to contact the bureau – we would love to hear from you.”
