Golspie pupils thrilled with new playground equipment
New outdoor playground equipment installed at Golspie Primary School is proving to be a star attraction.
Pupils cannot wait for break and lunch-time to clamber all over the climbing frame, bars and scramble nets.
The school’s Parent Council embarked on a fundraising drive to meet the £10,000 costs of purchasing and installing the equipment in the field at the rear of the school.
A successful bid was made to Kilbraur Wind Farm Community Benefit Trust with the funding received also covering four outdoor learning sessions for each class with Ian Paterson of outdoor activities business Go Wild Highland.
Parent Council members met a shortfall in funding by holding various events including raffles and a tipsy tea party. Donations were also made by individuals.
Primary one teacher Sara MacGruer said: “The children love the new structures and they are well-used for games and fun as well as for fitness.”
Becky Shaw, of the parent council said: “We are all really grateful to Kilbraur Wind Farm Community Benefit Trust for all their assistance with this project, and also to everyone who contributed to our fundraising efforts.
“With lighter days and better weather, children at Golspie primary have been making the most of their new play equipment.”
Mrs Shaw added: “The project is now complete, although the school and the parent council are discussing how best to continue improving the playground facilities around the school, particularly for wetter weather.”
