Golspie High School is appealing for donations of items to fill shoeboxes.

The secondary is again taking part in Rotary’s shoebox project, which runs throughout the year.

It involves filling shoeboxes full of gifts and sending them to trusted partners for distribution to disadvantaged children and families in Eastern Europe.

The Rotary has been operating the “Spreading a little Happiness” scheme for more than 25 years and has delivered more than million boxes.

There are four types of boxes - for babies up to 12 months; young children; teenagers up to 18 years; families and older folk.

Guidance on what items would be welcome can be found at www.rotaryshoebox.org

However, anyone thinking of making a donation should not give food, sweets, chocolate, drinks, or battery operated toys, seeds or any other living material.

Also not advised are inflammable deodorant and hair spray aerosols.

A post on the Rotary shoebox website states: “Above all, the contents should be of good quality, remembering that the recipient will be opening the box in eager anticipation, and especially with the toys for the children which quite possibly will be the first real gifts they have received for a very long time.”

Golspie High School is asking that items be dropped off at the school’s PE base.

It says: “Thanks in advance for any help and support you can give.”
