It was attended by members of Golspie Flood Action Group and representatives from stakeholders such as Highland Council, Transport Scotland, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and NatureScot.

Mrs Todd said: “As a group we have agreed to explore additional funding options, assess the feasibility of temporary flood prevention measures and work to identify the most vulnerable spots along the A9 in the village to ensure its continued safety.

“I am grateful to all the agencies who attended and contributed to the meeting which proved to be highly productive and beneficial in identifying potential routes forward.”

She added: “Golspie is vulnerable to both the sea and water running off the hill. With the challenge of global warming and the changing nature of our coastline, we need to be proactive and think about how we can best protect properties, businesses, and the vital infrastructure which passes through the village, like the A9 and railway.

"I understand the community's anxiety about the recent increase in flooding events, but I am optimistic that through the formation of this collaborative group, we can make some progress.

“I look forward to reconvening again in the summer.”

Golspie Flood Action Group was represented at the meeting by coordinator Henrietta Marriott with support from the North Highland Climate Hub.

It is planned to hold public meetings to update the community.
